FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are Plastics?

Plastics are synthetic or natural organic materials that can be molded, extruded or rolled into various shapes or spun into fibers. They are made up of chains of like molecules linked together. These chains are called polymers. They can also be used to make adhesives, sealants, coatings, and paints among many other products.

What is Polymer Compounding?

Compounding consists of preparing plastic formulations by mixing and/or blending polymers and additives in a molten state to achieve the desired characteristics.

What is twin screw extruder polymer compounding?

A twin-screw extruder is an important type of plastics processing machinery used to mix fillers and additives with the polymer in a continuous manner, so that the compound will perform as required and achieve the desired properties.

What is Specialty Polymer Compounding?

Creating and/or adding functionality such as conductivity, aesthetics, flame retardance, toughness, strength, thermal stability, and surface properties to base resins via the incorporation of a wide range of additives.

What are examples of compounding polymers?

Compounding Polymers include polypropylene, polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene and expanded polystyrene, polyethylene terephthalate, polyurethane, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), nylon and other polymers.

Why is compounding necessary for plastic processing?

Thermoplastic compounding makes the use of plastic polymers easier and more efficient. The process of compounding will essentially cause the natural materials within the plastic to behave differently, especially when combined with other materials.
